About Jonathon

Jonathon Nix is a painter, sculptor and designer. After studying at the University of Arizona and the San Francisco Art Institute, he spent years as a print and environmental graphic designer, serving notable clients such as the Smithsonian Institution, Oxford University Press, The Getty Trust, and numerous northeastern museums and colleges, and winning several national-level awards including the Federal Design Achievement Award (the highest level award from the National Endowment for the Arts), and the Benjamin Franklin award from the Printing Industries of America. In 1995, he combined his design studio and his painting/sculpture studio into a single space, and since then has split his time between the two disciplines, sometimes overlapping them in institutional projects. He has created installations for synagogues in Omaha, Nebraska, Birmingham, Alabama, and in Weston and Gt. Barrington, Massachusetts, among others. In the Boston area, Jonathon has shown at Laura Erlich, Baak Gallery, Beth Urdang, Phillips Academy Andover, and Merrimac College. Recent teaching includes the Essex Art Center, Phillips Academy, and Snow Farm. Jonathon’s work is in collections in Boston, Chicago, New York, Montreal, Tucson, and Tel Aviv. He is currently working from his studio in Albany, New York. Some examples can be seen at  .
