About Harvey

Harvey Kimmelman is an American impressionist landscape painter. Most of his painting are done outdoors where the light, colors, atmosphere and movement inspire him to capture what he’s feeling, in that moment, and paint it onto a canvas.

Born in New York City, he began his art training early at the High School of Art & Design in New York. He was studying to become a commercial illustrator/painter, but ended up earning his living as an advertising art director, in N.Y.C. While working, he continued to study figure drawing. privately with Joan MItchell Blumenthal, and at the Art Student’s League with Robert Beverly Hale. He also attended the National Academy of Design, in N.Y.C., studying Sculpture with Granville Carter.

After retiring from advertising, he moved to Sheffield, MA where he was able to return to fine art full time and took up watercolor under the tutelage of Pat Hogan in Great Barrington, MA. In 2016, he took an Impressionist Oil Painting Workshop in St. Petersburg, Fl, with Jerry Fresia, and knew that was the path he was meant to follow.

Harvey has had several one-man shows, most recently in March 2023, at the Bushnell-Sage Library, in Sheffield, MA. He had regularly exhibited in the Housatonic Valley Art League’s Group Shows, where his work won several awards, and has been exhibiting in the Norfolk Artists & Friends annual art exhibition, since 2012.
If you are interested in seeing more of his work, you can contact him by email at kimmelman@mac.com.
