W.E.B. Du Bois Sculpture Project Announces Three Finalist Sculptors

In the Community | The W.E.B. Du Bois Sculpture Project will hold a press conference and public reception on April 19, from 6-8:30 p.m. to introduce the three sculptors who have been selected as finalists for the creation of a monument to W.E.B. Du Bois. The event will be held in the main reading room of the Mason Public Library, located on Main Street (Rt. 7) in Great Barrington.

This event will be hosted by Jim Lawrence and the theme will be GIVE ME A MINUTE (using the theme is optional). Normally, performers are given a five-minute limit to perform, but this month an extra minute will be added, so prepare your material for your six minutes of time on stage!

Pedro Pablo “Pedrito” Martínez nació en La Habana, Cuba, el 12 de septiembre de 1973 en el barrio Cayo Hueso, donde se toca rumba todo el día, e inició su carrera musical a los 11 años, con una base en la rumba y Tradiciones yoruba afrocubanas. Desde que se instaló en la ciudad de Nueva York en el otoño de 1998, Pedrito ha grabado o actuado con Paul Simon, Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D’Rivera, Bruce Springsteen, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Dave Matthews y Sting, y ha contribuido en más de 75 álbumes. Un maestro consumado de la música folclórica afrocubana y el tambor batá, también es el primer rumbero del mundo: toca, canta y baila con docenas de grupos cubanos de rumba.
